M.B.

AND COPYWRITER

AMERICAN STORYTELLER

I'm convinced I have the messiest handwriting of any twenty-something blonde girl on God's green earth. Think I’m kidding? I had to grade my own papers in elementary school. This was a big insecurity of mine for quite a while, and it always baffled me. No matter how hard I tried, it always just came out…messy. Like literal chicken scratches. I yearned for the neat, curlicue penmanship my friends had. I wanted to be the kind of girl that dotted I’s with hearts and crossed T’s with straight lines. It’s only been within the last couple of years I’ve finally owned this part of myself.

You see, I have a busy mind. One that goes 100 miles per hour, no brakes. I joke my handwriting is such a mess because my fingers can’t possibly keep up with the pace of my brain. True? Maybe. But I know this for certain: A blank page will always be equal parts intimidating and freeing to me. The one thing that exercises my racing mind and puts it to rest—all at once.

Without further ado, welcome to my corner of the internet. My name is Morgan Belzer, formerly Durick until I (recently!) married my college sweetheart on a sunny September day. I graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s in journalism and mass communication. I am the oldest of four siblings, have a sheepadoodle named Hippo, and was raised in Des Moines, Iowa. (It's more than cornfields, I promise.) I'm utterly fascinated by people and wildly passionate about telling stories. I believe each person has one worth sharing, and nothing brings me greater joy than putting it into words.  Let's find yours together.

I'm a writer at heart.

My mom is the reason I  went into journalism—and the greatest reporter Rock Island, Illinois has ever seen.
